Starting today, every Monday I will be posting random news and notes I can find about the Orioles either from the past week or just in general. This is meant as an entertainment purpose on Monday because it is the most dismal of the days.
  • In the first game of the series against the Cleveland Indians, the Orioles starting lineup featured Chris Davis, Manny Machado and Matt Wieters. That has not happened since September 23, 2013; the day Machado first injured his knee. The Orioles have still not seen a lineup featuring J.J. Hardy and Jonathan Schoop this season.
  • Matt Wieters hit a home run in the 9th inning of Sunday’s game against Cleveland, which was his third game of the season. It took 35 games for Delmon Young to get his first home run of the season.
  • While we’re on the subject of Matt Wieters, this past weekend he just hit is 4th career triple which was also his first triple since 2012. Chris Davis and Matt Wieters both have 4 career triples.
  • Even after going into a huge slump, Jimmy Paredes is still the 4th most valuable player on the Orioles (1.1 WAR).
  • Chris Davis leads the Orioles in strikeouts with 77. The second closest is Jimmy Paredes with 47.
  • Manny Machado still leads the Orioles in stolen bases with 8. The second closest is Adam Jones with 3.
  • Ryan Flaherty (84 plate appearances) has one more walk than Adam Jones (227 plate appearances).
  • J.J. Hardy is currently the oldest player on the Orioles (32 years) and has the third longest contract on the team.
  • David Lough is probably the fastest on the Orioles yet leads in caught stealing with 4.
  • Oliver Drake, Chaz Roe, Tyler Wilson and Mike Wright have a combined 2.67 ERA. Jason Garcia alone has a 5.93 ERA.
  • No Orioles pitcher so far this season has committed a balk.
  • Ubaldo Jimenez is the only Orioles starter to have a FIP under 4 (3.38).
  • The only two pitchers to have WHIP’s under 1 are Darren O’Day (0.857) and Chaz Roe (0.844).
  • Manny Machado (9) and Delmon Young (2) are the only active Orioles players to have multiple errors, meaning the rest either only have one or none.
  • Delmon Young still leads in outfield assists with 8. Adam Jones, Travis Snider and David Lough combined make up 8 outfield assists.
  • Steve Pearce is still the only Oriole to have played in four different positions on the field: first base, second base, left field and right field.
  • Aside from catchers, Chris Davis, Adam Jones, Manny Machado and J.J. Hardy are the only active players to have played only one position in the field.
  • Steve Pearce and David Lough are the only players with more than 150 innings in the field and have yet to commit an error. I should also add that this includes Steve Pearce playing out of position at second base along with his usual duties at first base and at the corner outfield spots.
  • Brian Matusz is still the only Orioles pitcher this season to have a pickoff while on the mound.
  • The Orioles are currently 2-1 with Brian Matusz suspended.
