Given its partnership with sports apparel/clothier Under Armour, the University of Maryland has become the Oregon Ducks of the east coast. They’ve had more looks than Cal Ripken had batting stances. Some look amazing, others look like they belong in a bad comic book.
This morning, Maryland announced it would celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Baltimore and writing of a little poem called Defence of Fort McHerny with a commemorative uniform. Let there be no confusion: they knocked this one out of the park:

It’s a shame that the scheduling didn’t work out any better. How great would it have been to play the game at M&T Bank Stadium, close to the place where it all began? This would have been a great tie in to the city’s upcoming Star Spangled Spectacular. On second thought, I can’t imagine the traffic nightmare.
Scratch that, I’ll settle with the team looking amazing.

The thing I have never been a huge fan of when it comes to these all these new uniforms “innovations” (not just UA and Maryland, but everyone) is when the team colors are changed. Like when Northwestern wore red, white and blue unis. Or when Michigan State had gold helmets. I think it takes away from the identity of the team. But in this case, the historical significance really makes this one something special. No red, white, black and gold on this one. But no doubt it’s Maryland.
