The Baltimore Orioles announced on Monday afternoon that they have acquired right handed pitcher Preston Guilmet from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for minor league outfielder Torsten Boss. Guilmet will report to Triple-A Norfolk.

How will the Orioles make room for Guilmet on their 40-man roster? I’m glad you asked. Nolan Reimold has been transferred from to 15-day disabled list to the 60-day. I know, I’m not surprised either.

Reimold has played just 56 games over the past two seasons.
As for Guilmet, Dan Duquette tells MLB.com’s Brittany Ghiroli that he expects him to contribute in the big leagues this season, citing his experience as a closer. Guilmet, 26, earned 20 saves with Triple-A Columbus in 2013 pitching to a 1.68 ERA, 10.1 K/9 and 5.14 K/BB over 64.1 innings pitched in 2013.
Duq via text on Guilmet: "We expect he'll contribute to the Major Lg team this season given his track record and experience closing games"

He made four appearances in the big leagues last season, getting knocked around a bit with a 10.13 ERA, 1.7 K/9 and 0.33 K/BB over 5.1 innings pitched.
Who? Typical Orioles move. Garbage player. You are what you buy/trade for. What a freaking pity. This team could be real good if the Orioles would at least get “C” type players! Not “E” types…
2488 is a typical Baltimore fan. Just last week after the Opening Day win and euphoria he texted me and said he”hopes they have a good year”. I chided him just a day later saying I was sure he’d jump down their throat as soon as they hit a skid. The skid is here and just as predicted, 2488 is dogging the Birds. Really surprised. When they start winning again, he’ll soften up. He’s done it the last 2 seasons.
It’s an organizational arm. It cost them nothing. If he’s successful out of the bullpen, great! If not, its just white noise in a long season. Stick with football 2488, I think you’ve forgotten about baseball. Not many Jose Fernandezes in team’s bullpens or minor league systems.
Your the new “Orioles Apologist” MGW. If the Orioles traded for a pile of cow crap you would say they need it to fertilize the field!
How many Preston Guilmets the the Orioles have on their big league roster?
Ryan Webb, Evan Meeks, Johnathan Schoop, Ryan Flaherty, David Lough, Steve Clevenger, Delmon Young, Steve Lombardozzi, Josh Stinson, Steve Pearce, Brian Matuz… And you can’t forget the great Nolan Reimold even though he is on the DL.
And you dared to compare Schoop to the RedSox’s Bogaerts (#2 prospect in basball) & Bradley (#50) in a previous post… ROFLMFAO…
RedSox – 3 World Championships in 8 years
Orioles – 2 winning seasons in 16 years
Stop comparing the Orioles with the RedSox cause you embarrass yourself MGW. Compare the Orioles to the Twins or Astros or Padres or Marlins or Cubs, you might be able to make a case with them.
It’s amazing that you actually tried to make a case for the Orioles getting Preston Guilmet. NOBODY makes a case for acquiring Preston Guilmet!
You do know baseball I will admit but you drink way to much Orange Koolaid to the point you are embarrassing yourself. Making a case for Preston Guilmet showed that you cannot reasonably be in a debate. I’m beating you so bad in these debates I’m thinking of just stopping because I do love you brother…
Your Red Sox just sined Ryan Roberts.
Career .245 hitter.
Nice.
All teams, ALL TEAMS make these moves.
But the red sox don’t expect Roberts to play with the big boys and the O’s expect their walking pile of crap to be a closer on the big boy team . Get the picture , Ravens 2488 is correct you justify everything the O’s do , like they never do anything wrong , if this was this case they would have made more than ONE playoff appearance in sixteen years . Surely their record indicates they may have made mistakes along the way and I’m also sure when they made these mistakes you called them quality moves . Get real my man . Your knowledge of the game is impressive but your love of the O’s is clouding your thought process .
Uh no, they have Tommy Hunter. It’s called organizational depth. It never hurts to have it. I will never call “organizational depth” a mistake. And who knows? Preston might wind up being productive for the O’s. Also, be real, there’s at least 6 guys ahead of Preston on the closing depth chart.
Thanks Jim. I appreicate the constructive criticism.
No problem and it looks like you have a fan in brother Stevenson , a gov’t’ employee no doubt or at least a person who wants to be one…………………..
You may want to inform him that depth is more than numbers , it is the quality of numbers that count……………….the quality of your depth , along with pitching , is what separates the consistent contenders from the teams that make the playoffs once every sixteen years , look no farther than the O’s for factual proof………………….
