The Carolina League can’t contain Manny Machado. Over his first two rehab games, Machado is 8-for-12 with four doubles, a triple, two RBI and a walk.
He added a pair of two baggers on Sunday and Orioles manager Buck Showalter confirmed that Machado will DH for the Keys on Monday night against the Carolina Mudcats. But what about after? Could we see Manny Machado return to the Orioles lineup on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates?
Here’s the latest from MASNSports.com’s Roch Kubatko:
“Talked to him a little bit today,” said manager Buck Showalter. “We’ll see after the game how he feels. Right now the plan is for him to DH (Monday) in Frederick. See if something has changed.”
The Orioles are giving serious consideration to activating Machado from the disabled list on Tuesday. They don’t want to send him to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday if he might end up in Baltimore the following day.
The forecast in Baltimore doesn’t look promising, but perhaps Machado could DH if he he does in fact get called up. I mean, how much does he really have left to prove in Frederick at this point?
