You knew it would come down to the wire, but the Orioles got it done.  First round pick Kevin Gausman signed with the O’s moments before the 5 PM deadline.

After watching the Pirates fail to sign first rounder Mark Appel, Orioles Nation began to get a bit concerned that the deal wouldn’t get done with Gausman.

Mike Scarborough of TigerBait.com first tweeted the news just past the deadline.  Then Gausman confirmed the deal on Twitter.

“Happy to be the newest member of the Baltimore Orioles organization,” he tweeted.  “Living my dream.”

Welcome kid.

UPDATE: Keith Law reports that the O’s signed Gausman for $4.32 million.  As Steve Melewski points out, $4.32 million allows the Orioles to stay at their bonus pool.  Gausman was slotted for $4.2 million.

The Orioles will announce Gausman’s deal at 6:15 PM.
