Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun is reporting that the Orioles have acquired utility infielder Jake Fox from the Oakland Athletics for minor league relief pitcher Ross Wolf.
Fox, 27, was designated for assignment by the A’s on June 14th after hitting just .214, with 2 home runs and 12 RBI. He can play first and third base as well as the outfield.
While Zrebiec speculates that Chris Tillman may be sent down to make room for Fox tonight, it is my belief that Fox was acquired to replace the slumping Garrett Atkins, who is hitting just .219 with 9 RBI this season.
While Fox’s numbers are nothing impressive this season, he did hit better last year with the Cubs with a .259 average, 11 home runs and 44 RBI.
What do you think of the move and is Garrett Atkins out?
