Avoiding arbitration, the Baltimore Orioles signed All-Star relief pitcher George Sherrill yesterday to a one year 2.75 million dollar deal. Sherrill asked for 3.4 million but the Birds offered 2.2. The settlement of 2.75 triples his salary from last season.
Sherrill, a fan favorite, saved 31 games last season. A great move for the O’s. I know that many will want to see Chris Ray return to the closer role, but Sherrill proved to be better than Ray and I believe he should stay there this season. I guess the Spring will tell who fits what role.
I was hoping to flip my hat up again this year!
