You know how when you’re upset about something they tell you to sit back, cool down, and wait before you discuss it? I didn’t do that with this recap.

For the love of God can we get some pitching?

The Orioles scored 7 runs in the 2nd inning. One from a Ryan Freel walk, one from a Brian Roberts single, one from an Adam Jones walk, and four from a Nick Markakis grand slam. That’s 7 runs. For a pitcher like Jeremy Guthrie it should be game over.

Not tonight.

Jeremy Guthrie gave up four in the bottom of the 2nd. Then a solo shot to J.D. Drew in the 3rd.

Guthrie walked 4 batters on the night. His performance was bad, but the defense was even worse.

Aubrey Huff looked absolutely terrible today at first base. Dustin Pedrioa got an infield single to first that should have never happened. Jason Varitek scored on a fielding error by Huff, and with a chance to tie the game at 10 in the 8th inning Huff put up a K.

5 of the runs were charged to Guthrie, Baez was charged with 2 (he got the loss). Albers had none, but all 3 Orioles pitchers looked shaky. Baez, who has been my favorite reliever so far in 2009, drilled Kevin Youkilis in the head.

Nothing went right for the Orioles in Boston.

The Orioles face the Red Sox in game 2 of the four game series on Saturday at 7:10 PM.
