Lots of late inning comebacks for the Royals and in Kevin Millwood’s case, early leads, shot down the Orioles hopes of winning a series during the remainder of the season. With an emotional trip to Kauffman Stadium, Juan Samuel has managed his last game as an Oriole, and may have been on the coaching staff for his last day also (pending his decision). We won game one, and gave away the other 3, each with a specific pitcher to blame (Simon, Hernandez, and Millwood). Maybe Millwood can pitch BP and that can be the 1st inning in his mind, so then the 1st in the real game is like the 2nd or 3rd to him.
When you can’t beat KC, you can’t beat anybody:
6.05 – Kevin Millwood’s ERA on the season after Sunday’s performance
12.27 – The combined ERA in the series of the 3 Orioles losing pitchers (Simon (0.2 IP, 3 ER), Hernandez (1.0 IP, 2 ER), Millwood (5.1 IP, 5 ER)
8 – Number of double plays grounded into in the 4 game series (7 in the 3 losses)
3 – Number of times Felix Pie was caught stealing/picked off in the last 2 games of the series
14-40 – Orioles road record
32-73 – Orioles overall record
49-113 – Orioles projected final record
Bright Spot:
.385 – Brian Roberts’ average in 3 games played in KC (5-13)
.364 – Brian Roberts’ average over the 7 game road trip (8-22)
