I haven’t seen so much orange and black on a newspaper since 1996. Of course, I haven’t bought a copy of the Baltimore Sun since then either.
If the picture to the right is any indication, I expect there to be a lot of Tainwanese media in the Orioles pressbox this season. With the signing of Tsuyoshi Wada, I would think the Japanese press would likely follow the O’s this season too.
On Sunday, the Orioles officially announced their signing of lefty Chen Wei-Yin, the 26 year old from the Nippon Professional Baseball League.
Chen will be added to the Orioles rotation this season as Wada will likely move to the pen. He pitched in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics for Chinese Taipei and posted a 1.54 era with the Chuncichi Dragons in 2009.
Basically the only thing I’ve gathered from that newspaper is that Chen will wear number 16.
Go team!
Orioles
Orioles are going to be big in New Zealand also… Man, I can’t even make this shit up with the Orioles as they do it all by themselves!
This just in! Orioles sign 17 year old “Softball Player” from New Zealnad!
Excerpts compliments of the Baltimore Sun…
There’s never been a major league baseball player to come out of New Zealand. And despite reports from the country that 17-year-old first baseman Pita Rona has signed a seven-year “major league” contract with the Orioles, it’s actually far from that.
The Orioles have signed the 6-foot-5, 175-pound Rona to a minor-league deal and he will report to Major League Baseball’s developmental academy in Australia. Rona, who has played for the New Zealand men’s national softball team (commonly referred to as the Black Sox), shifted his focus to baseball last year.
Orioles not just content signing High School players they are now going overseas to sign teenage softball players!!
Just wait till they sign that prospect (Serge Karalinkowski) from Uzbekistan who is a master “Badminton Player”!
Unbelievable!!!
