I’ve always been impressed with Tommy Hunter in the Orioles bullpen and am baffled that he doesn’t receive more recognition. He’s effective in the low to mid-90s down in the zone, but have shown an ability to dial up his four seam fastball to triple digits. Monday night in Seattle, Hunter hit 100.6 MPH with his 24th pitch.
Hunter was averaging 97 MPH on his fastballs and mixed in two sliders at 90 MPH, three curveballs at 80 MPH and five cutters at 93 MPH. He threw 26 pitches (16 in the seventh and 10 in the eighth) and 18 of them were strikes.
GIF of his 100 MPH pitch and a velocity chart are after the bump.
Hunter hasn’t allowed a run in his past five outings (9 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) and opponents are batting just .188/.235/.219 against him during that stretch.
