Jeremy Guthrie struggled again in today’s Orioles loss, he’s having a rough year. The ace went 5.2 innings giving up seven earned runs on ten hits.
Guthrie has given up 12 earned runs over his last 10.1 innings pitched.
Baltimore allowed a season high 17 earned runs yesterday, but they hung tough through 13 innings.
Nick Markakis had a huge 2 for 6 day with a two run homer that tied the game at 6 in the fifth inning. Markakis continues the longest active stretch of reaching base in the majors. He’s been on in 36 consecutive games, Baltimore’s club record is 52.
Brian Roberts also had a big game, 2 for 7 with a two run homer of his own. Roberts other hit was a double, he has 45 of those for the league lead.
Down 8-7 in the bottom of the 9th the Orioles looked to end it with a walk off. Adam Jones hit a deep fly ball to left field, but it ended up being a sac fly that tied the game.
The O’s held the Angels within reach through the 12th, but the Angels bats exploded in the 13th when they scored nine runs.
Baltimore is now 4-6 in extra inning games and 10-21 vs. the AL West.
