The Texas Rangers might’ve won the trade deadline, but last night the Baltimore Orioles secured a series win with a chance to sweep the AL West leaders. The Birds also locked up the best record in the American League.
It seems that the Orioles rise to the occasion against good teams. They just put together back-to-back wins against Yu Darvish and Cole Hamels and limited the hot-hitting Rangers to just three runs in those two games.
After the game, Buck Showalter was asked about why his club has had so much success against strong opponents. Roch Kubatko on MASNSports.com transcribed his comments:
“We’re playing some good teams. If you look at our schedule, it’s a top-rated schedule the rest of the way. You know what? Our guys are pretty good, too. They enjoy the competition. They don’t shirk from it. They like people telling them they shouldn’t be able to do it. They like proving people wrong. They’ve done that for quite a while.”
