“Normally you can try and take some positives out of games, tonight, nothing,” Troy Brouwer to 106.7 The Fan’s Sky Kerstein after the Capitals 5-0 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
“Florida lost yesterday, we were looking good, we were excited about today and then we come out and just flat, just terrible.”
Washington put themselves in a 2-0 hole five minutes into the game and Dale Hunter pulled Tomas Vokoun in hopes of stopping the bleeding. It didn’t work as Andrea Nodl put one past Michal Neuvirth with :30 seconds remaining in the first period to put Washington down 3-0 heading into the first intermission.
“We weren’t ready to play, gave up chances, gave the puck away, didn’t get the puck in deep, just all around embarrassing.”
Brouwer followed Matt Hendricks’ lead, who fought twice in the second period, and dropped the gloves in the third to square off against Justin Faulk.
Here’s a tip for the NHL coaches ou there — if you’re playing the Capitals, take some shots from center ice.
Last night Braden Holtby became Washington’s third netminder to allow a goal from center ice this month. We showed you Dustin Byfuglien’s goal on Tomas Vokoun on Thursday.
If you can stomach another, here’s Joe Pavelski’s 69 foot goal on Braden Holtby.
Of every Super Bowl party, half of the crowd is there to actually watch football and the other half is enjoying the $3.5 million dollar 30 second commercials. Every year people seem to comment that the commercials have gotten worse, but I enjoyed this year’s content. I just think we’ve become spoiled by being able to watch them before the Big Game.
I was particularly impressed by the car commercials during Super Bowl XLVI. Four of my top five are auto industry ads.
So now the moment you’ve all been waiting for: my top five Super Bowl commercials of 2012.
#5: Toyoto Camry – It’s Reinvented
Toyota had a few clever reinventions in their ad for the new Camry. The one that sealed the deal had to be the DMV. Of course they drew attention with the reinvented couch. READ MORE >>>
Following the Ravens 23-20 loss to the Patriots, Ray Lewis encouraged his team to hold their heads high and told them to work to get even further next year.
A three game suspension couldn’t keep Alex Ovechkin off the ice last night. The Capitals captain slid out after Washington’s 5-3 win over the Boston Bruins and slammed Mathieu Perreault in the face with a shaving cream pie in celebration of his first career hat trick.
Last season the MLB Fan Cave debuted and made baseball fans jealous of their puny 70 inch HDTVs. Only the Fan Cave, with it’s 24-7 baseball set up that featured live performances from rock bands and appearances by the game’s biggest stars could put an awesome home set up to shame.
Guthrie submitted his video application on Monday night, saying that as a starting pitcher he only works one out of every five days and could call the Fan Cave home the other four.
It was cold yesterday in Foxborough, so Tom Brady let Steven Tyler borrow his sequin-embellished scarf. Tyler’s scarf wasn’t the only horrific aspect his his rendition of the National Anthem, the actual performance was pretty bad too.
“…And the rockets red glare, as bombs bursting in air?”
You saw what happened when Christina Aguilera messed up the Star Spangled Banner at the Super Bowl. NBC gave her a show about singing. Tyler already has his.
Former Ravens defensive end Trevor Pryce said on NBC Sports that he had to tell “his friends” on the Ravens that “they are not going to beat the Patriots.”
“If you have linebackers that can run with both [of] those tight ends, great. The Ravens don’t have them. I don’t think any team has them.”
It didn’t take long for the Washington Capitals to get revenge on Rene Bourque for his cheap shot on Nicklas Backstrom earlier this month. Last night, Matt Hendricks went after Bourque 1:15 into the game.
Brian Stewart was hired yesterday to join Randy Edsall’s staff. Maryland’s defense, and actually Maryland’s everything, was an abomination in 2011. Stewart, who comes to College Park from Houston, will likely install a 3-4 system in an attempt to not lose ten games in a single season. In other words, HE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE. Seems reasonable.
Suggs seems to be getting increasingly more comfortable in bashing ESPN’s most controversial character, this time saying that he doesn’t know how Bayless still has a job.
Let’s hope that Suggs can continue his smack talk through February and come on next week after a win in Foxboro.
