If they get good pitching, they get bad hitting. If they play good defense, they make mistakes on the bases.
The Orioles just can’t seem to put it all together after the All Star break and that’s why they’re just 1-6 since the break.
Tonight the undeclared Ace of the staff, Brad Bergesen, was on the hill and put together an average start for the rookie of the year candidate. Bergy went just six innings surrendering three runs on nine hits. Okay, I guess that’s not bad.
Baltimore’s other rookie of the year candidate, Nolan Reimold, went 3 for 3 on the day. Reimold had a double, crossed home, and walked in the ninth when the O’s appeared to be coming back off Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon.
That didn’t happen.
Down 3-1, the O’s had the bases loaded with one out when Luke Scott struck out on three pitches and Melvin Mora was rung up to end the game.
The one exciting play was Nick Markakis‘ league leading 11th outfield assist.
Better luck tomorrow.
