On Wednesday, the questions were being asked about the Orioles rotation with Opening Day looming. Thursday evening, Buck Showalter answered some of those questions naming Jeremy Guthrie Baltimore’s Opening Day starter, followed by Brian Matusz, Brad Bergesen and Jake Arrieta.
HardballTalk.com reported the Orioles four man rotation sourcing a tweet from Jeff Zrebiec. HBT predicts that the O’s will go with a four man rotation and carry an extra reliever for the first several weeks. They predict either Chris Tillman or Zach Britton will get the nod with Justin Duchscherer starting the season on the disabled list.
It sounds like Bergesen’s spot was looking less certain. According to Roch, Bergy needed to have a good outing today to lock up a spot in the rotation. Unfortunately, he got hit by a line drive off the bat of the lead off hitter for the Twins. Could be that Bergy is the 5th starter/bullpen guy until April 10th. Tillman could have the inside track on the rotation now.
