Zach Wilt is the Founding Editor of Baltimore Sports Report and lifelong Orioles, Ravens, and Capitals fan. He grew up on Maryland’s eastern shore, graduated from Towson University, and now lives in Central Florida where he roots for his teams from afar. The best sports moment he witnessed live was when he witnessed Delmon Young drive in three on a double down the left field line in game two of the 2012 ALDS.
Awesome!
I’m imagining that he’s looking at the one he hit clear out of Memorial Stadium.
Beautiful statue of Frank, but the Orioles and or Sunpapers blew the event for most of us who were made to wait outside the park while they showed the event on the big screen in centerfield for those who came early enough to rush to their seat if they were season ticket holders. I am one of those season ticket holders and we were just lucky to get in at 5:30 at the E gate at get inside at the end if the event. LET THE FANS IN EARLY ENOUGH TO SEE THE EVENT OR HOLD IT 6PM NEXT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The paper said the O’s wanted us in our seats by 5:15 so tens of thousands of us were waiting outside in two super long lines to get in. Bad planning on the O’s office staff once again!
Ron — I agree with you thst the O’s continually find ways to do the right thing the wrong way…But “tens of thousands” waiting outside was a a bit of a stretch…They don’t draw “tens of thousands” any more… 🙂
BSR Staff — Do you have the audio of “Middle River’s Own Dave Johnson” jabbering on for several minutes about the 1989 next to last game of the season when Manager Frank pulled Johnson from the game…Johnson made an ass of himself last night with his 24 year old grudge on what was otherwise a very nice night for #20….Please note…This was a guy with 22 career MLB wins, along with a nifty 5.11 career ERA, messing with a Hall of Famer…Shameful! Note II: I was there…Saw the “Q&A” with Frank shown on the Jumbo Tron…Frank even folded his arms as Johnson continued on and on, belaboring the point…A) He’s had 24 years to ask Robinson his selfish question privately. B) It was like watching Jim Grey interview Pete Rose at the All Star Game…Incredibly poor timing!!! Please post said Audio Clip for all to hear…I tried to find it on the web before posting here, but couldn’t find it.
Boy, you sound like you have some axe to grind. You a former memeber of the grounds crew? Did the Orioles make you sell peanuts instead of Bud Light or are you related to that batman guy?
Dave Johnson is the axe-grinder…Did you hear / see that part of the evening last night?
But Mark, you do raise another point…A little after the published time of 6.45, the On-Field portion of the ceremony began…Mrs. Jackie Robinson was introduced…No Standing Ovation…Hank Aaron was introduced…No Standing Ovation…Earl Weaver was introduced…No Standing Ovation…Jim Palmer was introduced…No Standing Ovation…Eddie Murray was introduced…No Standing Ovation…So lets see, 14,000 “Fans” braved the cold and drizzle to attend a game on a Saturday night. A game that whether these fans knew it or not, honored an Oriole Living Legend…And maybe 60 people stood up and cheered when the other Distinguished Guests were introduced…Pitiful, Baltimore…Weak, weak effort by the home team “Fans”…
Hey guys,,,,,,,just enjoy the work of art,,,,,,,,,it’s one nice thing Angelos has done for this city , he has shafted the fans but will leave nice memories of the good old days , it may be the only thing we have to cheer about………
