Orioles prospect Kevin Gausman threw six innings of one-run ball in the Bowie Baysox home opener against the Akron Aeros on Thursday night. Gausman allowed just two hits, walked none and struck out five.
According to Zach Mortimer of Baseball Prospectus, Gausman’s four seem fastball was clocked between 95-98 MPH, his two seemer at 91-94 with sink his slider at 83-87 and change up between 83-85. Mortimer noted that Gausman’s secondary pitches were “looking sharper as the game moves on” and said his slider “has good bite with depth.”
Including a three inning playoff appearance last season, Gausman has now pitched 28 innings in professional baseball and has issued just one walk and struck out 31. That’s a pretty good ratio.
