Manny Machado and Adrian Gonzalez have been named American League Co-Players of the Week for August 6-12.
Machado batted .375 (6-for-16) with a double, triple, three home runs, 7 RBI and 5 runs scored in his first four big league games. He joined Ray Knight, Lee May and Frank Robinson in the Orioles record books after he piled up four straight games with an extra-base hit to start his career.
Aaron Gleeman of HardballTalk.com points out that Machado is the 12th player in MLB history with three or more home runs in his first four career games. Four of those 12 have came this season (Will Middlebrooks, Yoenis Cespedes, Yasmani Grandal and Machado).
Clearly, Machado was rushed to the big leagues.
Hopefully, there’s more where that came from.
Long suffering Os fans deserve a potentially top flight player like Machado.
Here’s hoping…
I agree with MGW 100%,,,,,,,,,I can’t remember the last ‘impact player’ brought up by this organization,,,,,,,,,we have been deprived , to say the least,,,,,,,,,,
