Baltimore Orioles - MLB Wild Card Standings

Though you’re probably thinking “yeah, no kidding” after reading that headline I still think it’s important to note that the Orioles registered their 81st victory last night in an extra-inning affair in Boston. For years I begged the baseball gods to grant my O’s just 81 victories in hopes of ending their long suffering consecutive losing seasons streak.

After winning 93 games last season and taking the Yankees to game five of the ALDS, anything but a postseason berth this season feels like a disappointment. Sometimes it’s important to take a step back and acknowledge how has this club has come in two years.

The Birds are a game back of the Texas Rangers for the second Wild Card spot in the American League with 11 games to play. Tonight they go for the sweep in Boston as the only AL East team with a winning record against the Red Sox. They head to Tampa Bay for four against the Rays, then wrap their season with three against Toronto and four more against Boston.

However things go over the next week and a half, I’m just grateful to be watching meaningful baseball all season long. Hopefully these Birds can extend the season even longer.
