After Tuesday’s results, here is the Orioles Playoff Picture heading into the final game of the regular season against the Rays.
Things got a little hairy there after Monday’s games, but now the Orioles control at least part of their own fate.
After the Yankees extra-inning win against Boston, the O’s remain one game out of the AL East lead. An Orioles win tonight and a Yankees loss would force a game 163 in Baltimore.
Should both New York and Baltimore win, the O’s will host the loser of the Athletics-Rangers game. Shockingly, the A’s tied the Rangers in the AL West last night. Both teams hold the tiebreaker over the Orioles, so Baltimore has to win tonight in Tampa Bay to host the Wild Card game at home.
It’s crazy. The final game of the regular season could affect if the Orioles play an extra play-in game, travel to Texas or Oakland or host the Wild Card game on Friday.
Keep your eyes glued to the TV.
Either way, a win means they will at least be hosting playoff baseball at Camden Yards.
The question that I have that no one is tackling involves the first scenario of the O’s winning and the Yanks losing. If this occurs AND the O’s when the 163rd game that would give them 95 wins in the regular season and a 1/2 game over the A’s/Rangers winner for tops record in the American league, correct? Meaning that the O’s would have home field in the ALDS & ALCS. Is my thinking on how this tie-breaker game would be counted with the regular season record correct?
Wow, interesting Warren. That’s a good question, does that extra game count towards the seedings? Hmmm
