Yesterday, it was announced that the Ravens signed veteran linebackers Ricky Brown (Boston College) and Darryl Blackstock (Virginia), both of whom were on the Raiders roster last season.

I don’t mean to be mean, but I would be surprised if they even made the 52-man roster. Brown was an undrafted free agent that did well enough to survive on the Raiders roster since 2006. Blackstock was a 3rd round pick of Arizona who was never able to show that potential on the football field. He was actually out of the league for 2 years before making a comeback.  Brown only made it into 3 games last year before suffering a season-ending injury. Blackstock forced 20 tackles over the 16 games.

With a crowded linebacking corp, expect these players to try to make an impact on special teams. Who knows, I could be wrong. A change of scenery and a new coaching staff could breath life into these guys. More than likely, the team is trying to keep things interesting by bringing in players with something to prove in order to provide a little competition.
