This morning, The Sun’s Jeff Zrebiec broke the news that the Ravens have signed cornerback Lardarius Webb to a six-year deal.
BaltimoreRavens.com later confirmed the report with a nifty little blogpost of their own. The deal is worth a maximum of $50 million with a $10 million signing bonus and goes through 2017 according Albert Breer of the NFL Network.
Webb is entering his fourth year in the NFL and his second season as a full-time player.
He tore his ACL in December of 2009 and returned to play 15 games in 2010 and all 16 in 2011.
BR.com reports that the Ravens had been trying to work out a long-term deal with Webb and fellow corner Cary Williams.
Good for the Ravens for getting this deal done. Webb earned the contract last season. My only request is that we keep him off special teams. Is that alright with you Harbs?
Hey Zacn,
Call me when they sign Rice. F Webb.
We rip Ozzie when he doesn’t sign… well just about anyone, so we should give him credit for this. Good signing locking down one CB spot for the foreseeable future.
Credit for….resigning an average CB…woo hoo! Now sign me a 10 sack guy besides the Intimidator, a O lineman who eats ups D tackles not named Ol’ Bruz, an LB who can get to the QB without the initials MGW then I will be happy. Until then, this is just a C.
The positive of this is that perhaps it provides some cap relief, although I would think Webb wasn’t being paid much on a rookie deal. Does this make the Ravens better next year? Umm, he was on the roster last year, wasn’t he?
Like the signing but not for $50 million… Money could have been spent on Grubbs or Carl Nicks.
Agree with the 9Incher…
Man, you guys are a tough bunch to please. Webb is viewed league-wide as one of the most promising young cornerbacks in the league. He rebounded well coming back from a devastating injury and provides much needed stability at the position. I didn’t like the signing of Carr and Foxworth in past years (at least for the prices paid), but this is a good move.
MGW based on your theory, anyone who’s on a nonSB winning team one year should be cut. Keeping him makes us better than not having him, clearly.
Umm, no Jay not quite.
Webb is a guy that was already ON the team. This is not an addition of talent, simply keeping what you already had. The team is no better in signing Webb, he was with them last year.
By your theory, the Ravens got better by signing a player they already had?!!
You can’t upgrade at every position year to year. That’s absurd. Plus, how much can you expect to upgrade a team that was inches from a super bowl to begin with? Just because you don’t have a future hall of Famer at every position doesn’t mean you cut/don’t sign the current guy. They are a better team with him than without, that’s all I’m saying. It’s a good signing bc of that fact. What better CB is available?
So Jay, how did they improve on an already undermanned offensive line, by getting rid of their best offensive lineman, Ben Grubbs?
Get real people , this was a nice signing by Ozzie,,,,,,,,,,,,,,even a broken clock is right twice a day,,,,,,,that is a much better ratio than Ozzie’s win to lose ratio,,,,,,,,I hope all you guys understand ratio’s , this may be over your head Incher…………
