Ray Rice Is On Pace To Finish With Fewer Carries Than Shonn Greene And Frank Gore
Here’s a concerning statistic for you. Grantland’s Bill Barnwell tweets that Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice is on pace to finish the 2012 season with fewer carries than Shonn Greene and Frank Gore.
“That seems fundamentally wrong,” Barnwell adds.
His name is Cam Cameron — although John Harbaugh should be blamed as well.
Rice has touched the ball just 198 times over 12 games this season (16.5 carries per game). However, he’s averaging 4.4 yards per carry, but just 72.7 yards per game. At his current pace, Rice will finish the regular season with 264 touches, the least he’s had since 2009.
Green has 210 touches (17.5 per game) and is averaging 3.8 yards per carry and 67.2 yards per game. And Gore has 199 touches (15.58 carries per game) and is averaging 4.9 yards per carry and 81 yards per game.
Last season, Rice recorded 291 carries (18.19 carries per game) while averaging 85.3 yards per game. He recorded six 100+ yard rushing games in 2011 and has just two this season.
