Ray Rice, Terrell Suggs, Ray Lewis, Haloti Ngata, Matt Birk and Ed Reed were all no-shows at the Baltimore Ravens OTAs on Wednesday.
Rice has reportedly been upset with his long-term contract negotiations and has yet to sign his franchise tag tender of $7.7 million. Terrell Suggs is recovering from a torn Achilles’ tendon that he suffered either playing basketball or “during offseason training.” It all depends on who you ask.
Jamie McCracken of USA Today says that Ray Lewis “is at the stage of his career where at voluntary camp is an automatic no-show.” I suppose the same is true for Ngata and Birk.
Reed is likely still considering whether he is 100 percent committed to playing this season.
I’m not going to lie, veterans not showing up to OTAs isn’t a big deal. It happens every season. But I agree with John Harbaugh who said, “[w]e’d love to have all the guys here, but it’s not realistic in today’s business environment.”
