I’ve already decided that Robert Andino will be my favorite Oriole this season.
The Orioles infielder was psyched when he heard that the O’s had acquired lefty Dontrelle Willis. Andino and Willis were teammates in Miami (Florida then) between 2005-2007.
“He’s a great guy in the clubhouse, a good veteran,” Andino told Roch Kubatko at MASNSports.com. “He knows how to have fun, how to be a leader. Me being a position player and him being a pitcher, he’s one of the few that I look up to – just being a leader and being a veteran. I think it’s great.”
Andino told Roch that when Willis was in the Marlins lineup he used to hit ninth. Willis has a career .244 batting average and went 12 for 31 with three doubles a triple and home run with the Reds in 2011.
I’m liking this acquisition more and more. The Orioles plan on using D-Train as a lefty specialist and he’s a proven starter that could jump in as a spot starter when needed.
