Remember how awesome the Baltimore skyline used to be at Camden Yards? Then the Hilton came along and ruined it. Stupid, Hilton.
@MLBCathedrals, an awesome Twitter follow by the way, tweeted the photo below of what the skyline used to look like before the Hilton was built and how it looks today. Who else misses the Bromo Seltzer tower?
It’s still beautiful, but I miss the old skyline.
Unfortunately it is 2 different angles so that distorts the comparison, but it actually makes me not mind the Hilton, it looks more like Baltimore has grown as a city over the years
Hilton sucks- many memories of that stadium as a kid I have looking off in that corner and seeing the clock tower.
The Hilton would make more sense, if the City could ever figure out a New Arena… the plan that Willard Hackerman was pushing made a lot of sense. New Arena, improvement to the Convention Center… putting Baltimore in position for larger conventions, which bring lots of $ to the City… with the Hilton having been built to house the people attending those conventions to begin with.
That rant aside, I agree with Josh… I like the view better with the Hilton.
My opinion on this has evolved over the years. At first, I thought the hotel would totally screw up the skyline. Now, when I look at old, pre-Hilton photographs, the skyline looks incredibly lopsided and, dare I say it, even a little empty. On the plus side, at least the Emerson Bromo-Seltzer Tower is still standing. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Maryland Casualty Company Tower Building—the other Baltimore clock tower—which was razed and replaced with a parking lot in 1986. Yikes.
MCC has been gone since 1991,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Zurich bought them…………….
The Hilton is not really my main focus on what ruined Camden Yards, but PNC Bank for taking over the classic Coca-Cola billboard and replacing it with ol Cal
The Hilton definitely fills out the skyline and looks really nice. So I don’t mind it as much as I did when it first went up. And that area around it has become a nice pre and post game spot. But it sure is a shame we can’t see the clock tower.
Should have built the stadium on 33rd street……………………wouldn’t have to worry about the skyline .
