Prior to the AFC championship, Joe Flacco was criticized more than any quarterback who made the postseason during his first four years in the NFL.
To be fair, Flacco did put the bullseye on his back when he told reporters that he didn’t feel he got enough credit or that Tim Tebow was receiving too much national attention.
During his annual State of the Ravens press conference, owner Steve Bisciotti acknowledged Flacco’s critics and took the side of his franchise QB. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a guy as maligned as him,” Bisciotti said according to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. “We believe in him.”
Bisciotti added that he plans to sit down with Joe Flacco and “start grinding out contract terms.”
In 8 of 16 games this year, the offense underperformed. Jacksonville, New York, Tennesee, just to rattle off a few. People look at the Jets game and think the offense shined…the defense scored two TDs in that game. Look at the offense game by game, look at the stats. He’s good, not great.
I think Zrebiec didn’t include Bisciotti’s entire quote. I think what Steve really said was “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a guy as maligned as [Flacco], except of course for Brian Billick, who I threw under the bus at this very conference in 2005 and then abruptly fired a year after a 13-3 season based on a gut feeling, replacing a Super Bowl-winning coach with a ‘thin resume’ who comes from a long line of second-place finishers after my first choice – Jason Garrett – refused to take our offer after 7 hours of tense negotiations, including Dick Cass performing the Princeton fight song in full Tiger mascot costume.” At least that’s what I heard he said…
Pretty good Bernie,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I see way too much buddy , buddy in this room,,,,,,,I don’t see enough fire for this group to win a super bowl ring,,,,,,,where is the anger for loosing this game , was is the comments about how poorly the game was called form an offensive standpoint , if you want to take up for Joe , OK< but give him a better coordinator to help him grow,,,,,,,,ask Drew Brees how Cam helped him,,,,,,,,how can they be like this after this loss,,,,,,,,what a group of NON-COMBATANTS,,,,,,,,,,I'm more upset with these guys than Cundiff or Evans,,,,,,,,,,,,,,what a bunch of losers………
But Spy, they accomplished EVERYTHING their ownership asked them to accomplish, that is “MAKING” the playoffs.
Biscuit wants to be a consistent playoff team, he got his wish. He never said he wanted to win championships.
Thanks for reminding me , he certainly has the right group to get his wish……….
I think the same press conference after last season was even worse. A few days after a blown 21-7 lead to their archrivals and it was ear-to-ear smiles all around. This is show business to them, nothing more. And what’s the famous line about show business? “Always leave them wanting more.” As long as they knock on the door every year (like Harbaugh’s Eagles) the fans will stay on the egde of their seats and be along for the ride. There’s only one direction to go after winning a Super Bowl: down. And Harbaugh doesn’t want that kind of pressure – he and Bisciotti would rather be perennial contenders than champions. Hey, they’ve already set the NFL record for Gatorade baths without winning a title. For this regime, beating the Steelers in September and winning the Harbaugh Bowl is as good as winning the Super Bowl – you can tell from their celebrations. And the masses just eat it up and faithfully wear their purple every Friday, just the way the Ravens like it.
Spy you sound like you have some Super Bowl recipe. Are you an NFL, a college, or a high school coach with proven results. I don’t agree with Ozzie’s and Steve’s feeling the Cameron’s play-calling is the caliber that will consistently beat our competition, and yet they are winning in the NFL, not Super Bowls, but winning games. Your critique is so pointed, one would think you had a better plan yourself, but enough about you, I digress.
My coaching experience speaks for itself. Cam needs to go. Flacco needs a new offensive coordinator. The line needs new faces and fast feet. Ray Rice needs weapons around hm like top-flight receivers in addition to Smith and Boldin. Evans needs to be traded, Another speed guy is needed to replace him. Tyrrod Taylor needs to come in and play wildcat packages to keep teams off balance, just as the Eagles had done with Michael Vick before he returned to a starting position.
Cam needs to write books and sob stories. He is overpaid and overrated. Yet he called a decent game against the Pats. He deserved to win along with the rest of the team. He did not, however, and we should not pretend we or he or they won. The owner needs to step back to a more discreet role.
Flacco deserves to be backed. He is a consistent winner, and will take a team to the Bowl if he has the right play-callers around him. The main problem with Cam is that he is often too predictable. Whatever he was doing on Week 1, he should try to do again.
GGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, RRRRRRRRAAAAAVVVVVVEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Suggs and Corey Redding need to return with Ngata, Lewis, Reed, Johnston, Webb, Pollard, the CB’s, and most of the D. The new DC must prove himself with immediate results..Flacco must move in the pocket and beyond and must throw on the move.
Pretty poor comments from a ‘so called ‘ coach with experience,,,,,,,,,,,,You said Cam called a decent game against the pats , wrong , the Ravens should have won this game by ten points or more , they were ready to be taken down big time and Cam failed to recognize this…………………and you say play a wildcat like the Eagles , wrong , we already look enough like the ‘no ring’ Eagles now………….one more thing , my resume would make yours look elementary level , your comments display the shortcomings of a non-thinker………..
