Sorry, I’m posting this one a little bit late. As always, get the comments flowing, some debate is promoted in this discussion. Just try to keep everything fairly clean and respectful.
This weekend’s question: If you were starting an NFL team from scratch, who would be your first overall selection?
BONUS QUESTION: Who would be the first Ravens players you select?
As I alluded in my post on the top five QB’s, I think you have to start with Tom Brady. Franchise quarterbacks win championships and he’s the best in the league. Honorable mentions from the Ravens would be Haloti Ngata, Ray Lewis in his prime and Ed Reed in his.
If I were to start from scratch RIGHT NOW, I’d have to go younger than Brady, and it’d have to be on offense, and in that case I go with Sam Bradford. One of the best college QB’s I’ve ever seen, and he threw 18 TD’s with Danny Amendola as his 1 receiver last year.
I’m looking forward to seeing how Bradford pans out. I liked what I saw last season.
From the rest of the NFL, Tom Brady.
From the Ravens, Haloti “Meatball” Ngata.
Id have to go younger than Brady at this point in his career, though I agree he’s got plenty left. I just don’t know if I’d start building around him now. Since he’s a proven commodity with his strong playoff run and super bowl performance, Id go with Aaron Rodgers. If we’re talking about players in their prime, its a different discussion altogether.
As for Ravens to build around, its hard to disagree with Ngata, again, assuming present status as opposed to “in their prime.”
Rodgers is a good pick. I think Ngata wins the Ravens selection hands down.
I’ll jump in here. My top guy would be Aaron Rodgers, for obvious reasons. He’s got a Super Bowl under his belt, he can put up eye-popping numbers, and he’s a class act.
As for Ravens players, I’d pick Ed Reed. Even though he seems to be a couple years past his prime, he’s one of the best players in the NFL every season, and with him on a defense, you instantly have credibility. He’s a great locker room presence and would be a huge asset to the team on and off the field.
Larry Fitzgerald could make Kyle Boller look good……….go with him……….
