For team USA the World Baseball Classic came to a close after an embarrassing defeat to team Japan. Even though this loss made the US look bad as a whole, two good things happened for the Orioles. Brian Roberts hit a lead off homerun in the first inning and Jeremy Guthrie got to come back and pitch for the Orioles in Spring Training.

I don’t want to panic because I do trust Andy, Dave, and the boys, but I’d be lying to you if I told you I wasn’t worried about the pitching situation for the O’s this season.

Guthrie got his clocked cleaned in the WBC. He was 0-2 with a 14.73 ERA in only 3.2 innings pitched. Yesterday he started for the O’s against the Twins and things didn’t go so well for him then either. According Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun, he allowed four earned runs on five hits and three walks over 3.2 innings.

“That’s not Jeremy Guthrie,” said Orioles’ manager Dave Trembley.

Adding insult to injury, Adam Eaton pitched after Guthrie and surrendered three homeruns in four innings of work.

What are the Orioles going to do about their starting rotation?
