The Orioles suffered another set back this weekend in losing shortstop J.J. Hardy to injury with a strained left oblique. Various reports have said that Hardy will be headed to the disabled list, however no move has been officially made by the club.
Hardy is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury and his length of his time on the shelf. “Tomorrow we’ll be able to know what length we are dealing with,” manager Buck Showalter said according to Jen Royle.
Hardy started Saturday’s first game against Texas but was relieved after just one at bat. We initially reported that his injury appeared minor, however that obviously has since changed.
The Orioles number nine hitter promised to bring great pop to the bottom of the lineup and help in setting up leadoff hitter Brian Roberts. Hardy is hitting .200 on the season, with four runs scored, three doubles and two RBI.
Seemingly, the Orioles cannot get a break. The latest in an odd series of injuries/illnesses.
Well, the one thing about Hardy was that he’s not very durable.
