The Baltimore Orioles announced Wednesday night that they will be selecting the contract of top organizational prospect Manny Machado in time for Thursday night’s game against the Kansas City Royals.

Machado, last week’s Eastern League Player of the Week, leaves Double-A Bowie with a nine-game hitting streak, batting .266 overall with 59 runs batted in after hitting his 11th home-run of the season Wednesday night in the Baysox’s 7-4 loss to Altoona.

No word yet whether Machado will be starting tomorrow night for the Orioles, who will now have an extra man on the bench for manager Buck Showalter. A corresponding move will have to occur, likely reliever Miguel Socolovich who pitched two innings Wednesday night in the Orioles 9-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

Machado is a .263 hitter in 219 career minor league games since being drafted in the 1st round (3rd overall) by the Orioles in the 2010 MLB amateur draft.
