The Ravens announced this afternoon that they have reached agreement on a four year contact extension with cornerback Jimmy Smith that is worth $48 million with $21 million guaranteed at signing.
This is a huge move for the Ravens, locking up an emerging young defensive play-maker who was likely to command top dollar should he hit the open market as a free agent following the 2015 season. Smith, coming off a season-ending foot injury, was coming into his own as a lock-down corner prior to his injury.
Now that Smith is in the fold for the next four years, the Ravens have three other extension candidates in pending free agents Marshall Yanda, Kelechi Osemele, and Justin Tucker that they will surely be talking to in the coming weeks with the hopes of making a deal.
