Here are some of topics discussed in this week’s show:
Carson Palmer (OAK QB)- 2 solid games in a row. Not only has he proven to be a good backup, but he can be used as a starter based on the matchup. If you have Schaub on bye next week Palmer could be a decent play against MIN. He also has a game left against MIA and faces DET and KC during your fantasy playoffs. Both of those teams can be thrown on.
Andy Dalton (CIN QB)- He’s legit. He also beat PIT. Make him your backup. Trust him if you need him to step in and play. He is @BAL next week so I wouldn’t recommend him then.
John Skelton (ARI QB)- What is this guy’s deal? He follows up 222 and a TD with 315 and 3 TD’s?? Go ahead and pick him up incase this guy is a shocking out of nowhere superstar. You never know. Kolb will be back soon and I would assume that he would get the job back since he is being paid so much money, but if he struggles then they could let Skelton finish out the season. Stash him on your bench maybe? READ MORE >>>
Can we stop calling Patriots head coach Bill Belichick a genius now? I’ve said for years that Belichick is only as smart is Tom Brady is good. It’s amazing how smart he looks when Brady throws for 4,500+ yards and 30+ touchdowns a year. When things are going well up in New England the national media tells us how brilliant the hoodie is and how great his player development and scouting skills are compared to those in the rest of the league.
What you don’t hear about are Belichick’s failures and there are quite a few of them in recent seasons. After the NFL lockout the Patriots made two big player transactions, they traded a fifth round pick to the Redskins for defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and signed free agent wide receiver Chad Ochocinco. The Pats have always been known for having the ability to transform players that have a reputation of being locker room hazards and making them stars again in New England, but that hasn’t happened this season. After eight weeks, the Patriots cut their losses with Haynesworth who registered just six tackles in a Pats uniform. READ MORE >>>
Quarterbacks: Good Starts:
Cam Newton (CAR)- Keep rolling with him, produces every week
Matthew Stafford (DET)- don’t care who he’s playing…start him
Aaron Rodgers (GB)- this game vs STL won’t be fair, huge day coming
Eli Manning (NYG)- has looked like Peyton lately, could be in shootout
Ben Roethlisberger (PIT)- 303/3 last game vs JAC, good matchup
Michael Vick (PHI)- 433/6 last game vs WAS, enough said
Joe Flacco (BAL)- averages 210/2 vs HOU, good at home
Tom Brady (NE)- 388/5 last game vs DAL, and he’s Tom Brady
Tony Romo (DAL)- has had a solid season, should be in a close game READ MORE >>>
Who should you start and who should you bench on your fantasy football team this week? Do you have key players out on bye? If you are a local Ravens or Redskins fan then chances are you do. No need to worry. I have your list right here of who to plug in instead. There are also a nice number of guys on this list under “good” or “decent” starts that are probably available for you to pick up.
Quarterbacks: Good Starts:
Michael Vick (PHI)- will throw and run a lot in what could be s shootout
Ryan Fitzpatrick (BUF)- should bounce back from bad game in a shootout
Eli Manning (NYG)- been great lately, great matchup, great career #s vs SEA
Drew Brees (NO)- surprisingly doesn’t play great vs CAR…but cmon its Brees
Cam Newton (CAR)- not facing great defense, will throw and run as usual
Philip Rivers (SD)- good matchup, always puts up big yds against DEN
Tom Brady (NE)- don’t care about the matchup or anything else, start him
Aaron Rodgers (GB)- averages 328/2 vs ATL, possible MVP
Matthew Stafford (DET)- 2 guaranteed TD’s to Calvin each week, always good start READ MORE >>>
Who to start and who to bench? Everyone has dilemmas each week. I’m here to help you decide. Because of time constraints and some people requesting that I go even deeper into the player pool, I decided to pull the kicker’s from this piece and instead list more WR’s and RB’s down the depth chart. Kickers are simple anyways. Start the guys for teams you think will win. Pretty easy. Questions on who to start over who? Ask them here.
Quarterbacks: Good Starts:
Jay Cutler (CHI)- Weak matchup, throwing for good yardage each game
Ryan Fitzpatrick (BUF)- he will destroy CIN, lots and lots of yards
Colt McCoy (CLE)- has been consistent with 210/2 per game, good matchup
Matt Hasselbeck (TEN)- good career #s against CLE, good matchup
Tony Romo (DAL)- if he played last week he will again, shoot out coming
Matthew Stafford (DET)- always a good start
Michael Vick (PHI)- he’s going to play, and he’s going to tear SF up
Drew Brees (NO-) could legitimately throw for 500 yds against JAC
Kevin Kolb (ARI)- good matchup, could see him throwing a lot in a close game
Matt Ryan (ATL)- weak opponent, 3 TD vs. SEA last time
Aaron Rodgers (GB)- always great, DEN doesn’t scare me at all
Tom Brady (NE)- everyone who owns him keeps winning, that’s why
Phillip Rivers (SD)- MIA not tough, only 1 TD vs MIA in career though READ MORE >>>
Who should you start and who should you bench in Week 3? Read on to find out.
Quarterbacks Good Starts:
Tom Brady- always a good start, averages 228/2 vs. BUF
Kyle Orton- may have to throw a lot, gets good yardage, good vs. TEN
Matthew Stafford- close matchup will keep him throwing
Drew Brees- could be a shoot out with Brees winning it
Matt Schaub- could be a shoot out, high yds and TD’s
Michael Vick- will play, destroyed NYG last year, big rushes against them
Eli Manning- plays well vs PHI always has lots of TD’s
Cam Newton- JAC can’t stop anything, throws lots and runs
Phillip Rivers- will light KC up, won’t have to throw in 2nd half though
Ben Roethlisberger- IND has played him tough but this will be diff, will throw TD’s early READ MORE >>>
I’m going to comment on what has become quite possibly the dumbest story in sports this week.
Former Patriot and current NFL analyst Tedy Bruschi got upset with New England wide receiver Chad Ochocinco over a tweet he posted that complimented the Pats organization. ”I’ve never seen a machine operate like that,” Ochocinco tweeted. For reasons that I have yet to figure out, Bruschi took offense to the tweet, telling Ochocinco to “drop the awe factor.”
“You’re not a fan, all right? You’re not someone who’s on another team or watching TV. You’re not an analyst. You’re part of it,” he said.
Are you as confused as I am? Is Bruschi upset because Ochocinco is happy to be on a good team? Does he not want Chad to compliment his teammates? I can’t make any sense of this.
Here’s my logic. Bruschi is a guy who was basically asked to retire before the team would have cut him prior to the 2009 season. He is likely jealous of Ochocinco and is lashing out for no logical reason. Ochocinco isn’t giving away secrets or complaining about a lack of playing time, he’s saying he’s impressed. Bruschi is coming off like an old man that randomly yells at kids when a ball rolls into his yard.
Relax dude. They’ll be plenty of controversies this season for you to rant about, like Tom Brady’s haircut or that stupid hoodie that Bill Bilichick wears. Leave Ochocinco alone until he does do something stupid.
Week 1 wasn’t really full of surprises if you read my article on who to start and who to bench. I’m here again this week to make sure you start the right guys, and to make sure you win. If your 1-0 then you might as well go to 2-0 and really have a nice jump on the season. If your 0-1, you can’t lose and start 0-2. That’s already a deep little hole to get out of.
This week I’m going to switch up the way I do this, and hopefully this is the way it will stick for the rest of the season. You can expect my article like this every single Thursday throughout the season. I plan on updating it and moving guys around as the injury reports change. So I’m going to take a look at each position and give you the guys that are good starts, decent starts, and bad starts. This way you can compare guys at a certain position to other guys on your team at that position. You don’t have to scroll down the page to find all of your guys at one position this way. The players are in order of the time that their game is being played and not by any sort of rank. READ MORE >>>
The NFL season starts tonight!!! More importantly, the fantasy football season starts tonight!!! Why else would any of us watch Cleveland vs. Cincinnati unless we have AJ Green and want to see what our rookie will do in his first game. For that reason, fantasy football is now bigger than the sport itself.
Do you have any questions about who to start over who in the first week? Let’s take a look at all the matchups and determine who are good starts, decent starts, and bad starts. Football is incredibly unpredictable, and it’s almost impossible to read splits the way you can with baseball. Because of that I can tell you all season long who will give you the best CHANCE to perform for you. Nobody can ever predict the day that Mike Tolbert rushes for 3 TD’s. It’s impossible. Keep that in mind. I base the starts on matchup obviously and I also look at how each player has done historically against the opponent. I also factor in who I think will win the game, and whether a team will be more pass or rush oriented in that game. Whether they are up or down on the scoreboard has a lot to do with their weekly values.
Decent starts: Jordy Nelson, Ryan Grant, Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas, John Kasay, Green Bay Defense
Bad starts: Donald Driver, James Jones, Robert Meachem, Devery Henderson, Lance Moore, James Starks, Darren Sproles, Garrett Hartley New Orleans Defense READ MORE >>>
Hope Solo retweeted the same post, but has yet to respond to the challenge. Who do you think would win the penalty kick competition between Hope Solo and Chad Ochocinco?
There are so many good WR’s. The problem with them in the fantasy world is usually the QB that is throwing to them. Even the most talented guys will take fantasy hits if they don’t have anyone throwing to them. This position typically hasn’t the longest NFL life and the good ones can stay good for close to a decade. So there are plenty of familiar names on the this list plus a handful of breakout stars.

Chad Ochocinco and Albert Haynesworth might not be long for New England. One day before this story came out by my guy Mike Reiss, one NFL executive familiar with the Patriots ways told me he believes one or both of the big name acquisitions will be cut before the season starts. The front office man thinks coach Bill Belichick will use the controversial players to help control and send a message to his locker room.
And so we’ve reached Friday. A very happy TGIF to the NFL owners and general managers out there as they’ve had quite a busy week. The NFL lockout ended just four days ago on Monday and I can confidently say just based on our web traffic here at BaltimoreSportsReport.com, that the National Football League is poised for a gigantically successful season with fans.
As I sit here on Friday and look back at how we got to where we are I can’t help but think that this whole situation, the way the NFL lockout happened and concluded was almost too perfect. When the topic of football got brought up around water coolers in American offices back in May and June people would often agree that the NFL, and Roger Goodell specifically weren’t, stupid enough to lose a whole football season. Not only were they right, but I have to wonder if Goodell, DeMaurice Smith and hell even Drew Brees for that matter were on to something even bigger in those meetings around the country during the labor dispute.
I’m talking about a conspiracy theory here folks and one that I call The Great NFL Lockout Conspiracy. This little doozy might not fit up there with the moon landing or second shooter theories, but it certainly has me scratching my head and wondering if I was a part of a hidden plot to make football even more popular in 2011 than it has been in year’s past. Am I sounding crazy yet? Good. But stay with me here folks. READ MORE >>>
