Chris Davis and Nick Markakis

I was all prepared to crank out a blogpost about why the Orioles should use Delmon Young more regularly. The dude had three hits on Monday night and then was pinch hit for by a guy who had just four in his previous 36 at-bats.

What the hell do I know?

Buck Showalter called upon the slumping Chris Davis, who ended up hitting a monstrous walkoff three-run blast. That dinger was the O’s first pinch-hit walkoff dong since Larry Sheets hit one in 1988 against the Mariners.

Up to that point the birds were 2-for-11 with runners in scoring positions and had stranded ten guys on base. Now they’re five games over .500 for the first time since May 11.

Monday night sure felt like 2012 again.

Thanks for Roch Kubatko for tweeting some of the above statistics.
