Major League Baseball will void the Orioles contract with 17-year-old Korean pitcher Seong-Min Kim according to Roch Kubatko at MASNSports.com. The Orioles now have to hope that they can sign Kim at a later date.
Baltimore announced their deal with Kim on January 30 and the Korea Baseball Organization and Korea Baseball Association filed a complaint with Major League Baseball at the Orioles breach of protocol. Dan Duquette and the Orioles issued an apology after having their scouts banned from Korea, but apparently that isn’t enough.
So to summarize; the Orioles sign a 17-year-old talent from Korea, receive complaints and have their scouts banned from Korea and then lose out on the player.
I’m trying to think how that could have gone worse.
Oh , it can get worse,,,,,,,next year he will sign with the Yankees and become an all-star pitcher who constantly wins 20 games a year and posts an e.r.a. of below 1.00 for the life of his career,,,,,,,,,,,yes , it can get worse……….
“The Orioles now have to hope that they can sign Kim at a later date.” Z-Man, I think you are over-thinking this one. When we start fretting in these parts over the potential loss of South Korea’s “Best” 17 Year Old Pitcher, well young fella, methinks we have bigger fish to fry. I’m jus’ sayin’…How ’bout instead we trade six of our “Starters” for Matt Garza?
